In autumn 2014, a total of 10 hectares of forest were planted in Szigetmonostor and Pócsmegyer with the aim of providing climate protection, recreation, habitat restoration and environmental education. Additional project activities include the restoration of water habitats and increasing the area of grassland on the island.
The Village House (Faluház) in Szigetmonostor will be turned into a visitors' centre with a climate-related profile. The building itself will make use of renewable sources of energy and will host an exhibition on the project and on the island’s natural values. The centre will also serve as a venue for environmental education activities.
The long-term sustainability of project results and future developments will be ensured by a complex eco-island concept, which will be developed during the project.
